Welcome to Leopold Little Athletics
At Leopold Little Athletics Club (LLAC) Est. 1976, we aim to assist children, of all abilities, to develop their athletics skills, whilst promoting positive attitudes and a healthy lifestyle. Through involvement in our club we hope to encourage family and community involvement in sport.
We cater for children from the ages of 5 to 17 years, and help children develop the basic athletic skills of running, jumping and throwing. Our athletes are encouraged to improve on their personal performances from week to week, through friendly competition on Saturday mornings. Competition day is held at John Landy Athletics Field in South Geelong, where we compete against athletes from the other seven clubs that are also part of the Geelong Little Athletics Centre (GLAC).
We also offer training every Wednesday afternoon between 4:15 – 5:15pm at the Leopold Primary School track. It is not compulsory to attend training but is an opportunity for the athletes to practice and improve on their skills. Most importantly, we encourage our athletes to have FUN. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to see one of our friendly committee members or contact the club direct via ‘Contact Us’.
Registrations
The registration fees include Little Athletics Vic (LAVIC), Geelong Little Athletics Club (GLAC) and Leopold Little Athletics Club (LLAC) fees for the full year (both the Track and Field and Cross-Country seasons). This fee is $195 for the first 2 children (U6-U17) and discounts will apply for 2 or more children. This covers registration and weekly competition fees.
** LAVIC endorses the ‘Get Active Victoria’ program, which supports eligible families to engage in community sports, providing rebates on sports participation. **
Registration fees are non-refundable. For this reason we recommend that first time families take advantage of the two free TRY OUTS available to NEW ATHLETES who have never been registered. As a ‘TRY OUT’ the athlete can compete in all of the events offered for that age group, and then decide whether to go ahead and pay their registration fee to become a member.
Competition Days
Competition is held each Saturday morning commencing at 8:15am sharp, and running through till approximately 12-12:30pm. Parents are required to sign their children in at the LLAC table each week, which is located under the main grandstand. Children are not permitted to be left unsupervised at any time on competition day. Under 9 – Under 17 athletes will then compete in up to five events that will rotate from week to week. Under 8’s will compete in up to four events that will also rotate from week to week.
Under 6 & Under 7’s will participate in a variety of events each week starting at 8:30am and finishing at 10:30am.
Please be aware that, for insurance reasons, parents are not permitted to join their children inside the competition areas, unless they are rostered as a parent helper for the morning. If you do wander out to the infield or on the track, a GLAC official will direct you to leave the area. Parents with Under 6 & 7 athletes are however able to watch their child on the infield.
Uniforms
Competition LLAC uniforms are compulsory and must be worn at all Little Athletics competitions. Uniforms can be purchased through the club: boys and girls competition singlet $30 or girls crop tops $35. Black shorts are to be worn with our club top. Where possible these should be plain black and of a length that is above the knee.
It is compulsory that enclosed footwear be worn by athletes at all times in all events, at any Little Athletics competition or carnival. Light weight shoes/waffles or sandshoes are ideal. Shoes with tags, such as football boots, are considered a safety hazard and therefore not acceptable. Spiked shoes may only be worn by athletes in the U/11 age group or older in specified events.
Parent Helpers
Little Athletics requires many hands to ensure the smooth running of competition days for the athletes. Geelong Little Athletics Centre therefore requires that all clubs ensure parents actively contribute to the running of the centre. Duties are allocated by the club, ensuring each family assists with duty across the season. Anything you are asked to do will be explained to you on the day, and we send out the duty roster prior to each competition day via the Team App and Facebook.
